Business Overview
Jason Moran, who used to be a skater himself, has been holding an event of his own idea, "Skateboarding," which tries to combine live jazz performance and skateboard culture, is coming to Japan for the first time. Jason Moran is a pianist whose outstanding talent and technical ability have influenced famous musicians and artists from around the world, such as Robert Glasper and Charles Lloyd. He is a composer and an educator, and started "Skateboarding," an improvisation session event with the hope of creating a new chemical reaction by letting people touch the appeal of both cultures, jazz and skateboarding, through the creativity, physicality and improvisation that are common to both. Held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Jazz Center in San Francisco and the Young Arts Foundation in Miami, this event will feature Japan's top musicians and top professional skaters. Drummer Shun Ishiwaka and bassist Takashi Sugawa, who lead the Japanese jazz world both in name and reality, internationally active professional skater Yoshiaki Toeda, who is also a big fan of jazz, Kota Ikeda, who boasts the best skills in Japan, and Ryuhei Kitazume, who is known for his dynamic tricks, participated in this first session in Japan. As an opening act, lone pianist Sugadairo will perform jazz great Thelonious Monk in a duo with the already acclaimed Jason at the Skate Park. This is an unprecedented impromptu session of sports/street culture and live jazz featuring top performers from two different scenes.
