Business Overview

“Sumidagawa Shirabansho Sumi ni Yume ” (aka Sumiyume) is an art project that began in 2016, with the opening of the Sumida Hokusai Museum. In Sumida, where Katsushika Hokusai spent 90 years of his life, people who express not only art and culture but also all kinds of things gather, and by developing projects while making use of various resources and places, they aim to make this place lively and colorful. SumiYume consists of two main themes: a project that calls for proposals from the public, and a project that will have an impact. The events include (1) the Sumiyume Odori Procession, a Bon Festival dance competition "Where are you? Giant Paper Sumo - Ryogoku Sumiyume Tournament" produced by Yuichi Kishino, and a shadow painting performance by Koheisai Kawamura; (2) a tour of 4 locations in the ward and regular tournaments in both countries for the participatory project “Sumiyume Odori ” by artist unit KOSUGE1-16; and (3) the sailing of a masterpiece by contemporary artist Yasuhiro Suzuki,“ Fastener Boat ” on the Sumida River.

The executive committee is composed of Sumida Ward, tourist associations, Tokyo Metropolitan Park Association and other related organizations, as well as people involved in art who have been active in the ward and neighboring areas. The Sumida Ward Culture Promotion Foundation serves as the secretariat.
