FY 2017 Tokyo Culture Program Grant: Support for Overseas Cultural Projects

Business Overview

"Gauta" is a performance that unfolds a grand theme of nature, people and art on the two islands of Terschering Island in the northernmost part of the Netherlands, where 1/3 of the island is protected, and Kozushima Island, which is said to be a place where gods gathered. This is a complex project that includes the production of a documentary film that captures the transition and development of festivals, Shinto rituals, research on Kozushima Village, interaction with residents of the island, and creation, as well as the dissemination of the film to the world from an international film festival. It is also a challenge of how to merge the boundary between the theater space and nature created by performances in nature.
