Business Overview
【 Project Outline 】 Cherfitsch, who has been successful in international co-productions mainly in Europe, is exploring the possibility of co-productions in Asia, instead of the European style of co-productions, where the main purpose is to collect creative funds, and is conducting research and creation based in Thailand. In Southeast Asia, where a platform has not yet been established, the aim is to build a cooperative system that goes beyond funding, and to form a network that can be used effectively for the next generation, with the aim of becoming a model case. [First year project overview] Description: I researched Thailand and Indonesia, and met key people energetically. In particular, with the cooperation of Wataru Fukutomi, a scholar of Thai literature, and the Japan Foundation Bangkok Office, we interviewed a wide range of performers, visual artists, university faculty, publishers, translators, gallerists, and others working in Bangkok to map the entire project. In order to let these people know about Cherfitsch, he performed one of his masterpieces, "Super Premium Soft: Vanilla Rich," in Bangkok, Thailand. Also after these processes, it has decided to make a stage adaptation of a new work in progress by Thai novelist Utit Haemamoon. Date: Year round. However, "Super Premium Soft W Vanilla Rich" will be performed from March 10, 2017 to March 12. Venue: Sossai Pantum Khormon Theatre, Department of Drama, Faculty of Letters, Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok) [Outline of the second year project] Description: In preparation for the international co-production that decided to adapt Uthit's original novel to the stage in the first year, auditions for performers, production assistants, and production assistants in Bangkok, rehearsals for less than two weeks, Japanese research by Thai artists, and research for international co-production partners were conducted, and concrete creative work such as script writing and planning began. On the other hand, part of his network in Asia paid off and he staged a recreation of "Five Days in March" in Beijing, China. Date: Year round. However, "The Five Days of March" is performed from January 18, 2018 to January 20. Venue: Middle Theater (Beijing) [Outline of the third year project] Description: The title of the international co-production in Thailand was decided to be "Pratana: Portrait of Possession." After deciding on the creative members, they stayed in Bangkok for about three months to produce the work, developed trilingual publicity (Japanese, English and Thai) in Bangkok and Japan, and had the world premiere in August. We also translated the review to verify its response in Bangkok. As a related project, they performed "Pratana" in Paris. Furthermore, it won the Best Play Award at the IATC Thailand Dance and Theatre Awards 2018, the only performing arts award in Thailand, the Association of Theatre Critics Thailand Center (IATC). Profile
[Cherfitsch]
It was established in 1997 as a theater company where Toshinori Okada wrote and directed all works. Through works such as "March no gokka" (Five Days in March), which won the Kunio KISHIDA Drama Prize, he developed a lazy and noisy physicality that seemed to exaggerate or not exaggerate his daily actions. Since "5 Days in March" at Kunsten Festival des Arts in Belgium in 2007, he has been invited overseas many times. In 11, he received the Critics' Award of the Society of Theatre Critics in Montreal (Canada) for his work "Hot Pepper, Cooler, and Farewell". He has been constantly updating his methodology, focusing on the relationship between words and the body, and has been creating works based on his quest for fiction since 12. In 13 he released "Ground and Floor" commissioned by Kunsten Festival des Arts, and in May 14 he released "Super Premium Soft W Vanilla Rich" commissioned by Theater der Welt 2014.
