As a Japanese artist of Asia Exchange: U.S. Japan Connection – Residency and Performance by National Performance Network/Visual Artists Network (NPN/VAN), after residency in North America and Kobe from 2016 to 17, she created a new work in North America tour. [Performance] "water and tears" (premiere) The Japanese title is "midu tsu namita." The pronunciation of 'water' and 'tears' in ancient Japanese, 'midou' and 'namita,' are connected by 'tsu,' the belonging case in proto-Japanese. When the line between me and all living things and what was there was blurred. A sense of separation between oneself and others, an awareness of time in an era when one might not have recognized oneself as a single "thing" in the first place. To take in or blend into nature or other creatures in their entirety or in part. Just as when two glasses of water mix with water, it becomes impossible to tell which water was originally there, so that even now, with the concept of me, I have a body containing water like many other creatures. Whether or not you see what is in front of you as "I am" or "something that is continuous with you."
