Business Overview

This performance marks the 40th anniversary of the 12 Onkai (established in 1977), which is composed mainly of musicians from the Imperial Household Agency, along with outstanding musicians from the private sector. The members, who were young when the group was formed, have already served as principal musicians. The 12 Onkai is recognized as a special group for gagaku performers and enthusiasts. The program was designed to reflect on the history of the 40 performances and to nurture future generations of gagaku. [12 Onkai]
It is a gagaku performance group founded in the autumn of 1977 (1977) with the aim of asking the public about the artistry of gagaku, taking a step forward, without limiting their years of study, and with the initiative of musicians whose mission is to inherit the tradition of gagaku with more than a thousand years of history and pass it on to future generations. Since its establishment, it has held a number of concerts since the summer of 1978 (1978).
From the second performance, he began to perform new songs in search of the possibility of fusing traditional and modern arts, and presented works such as Masanori FUJITA's "Ongaku Lotus for Gagaku," Sukeyasu SHIBA's "Shotorashion," Minoru KOBASHI's "Enraku," Toshiyuki OZAKI's "Mumei for Kangen," Shoetsu KAWASAKI's "Zoshin no Fu," Taminosuke MATSUMOTO's "Geisho," Toshiyuki OZAKI's "Shu" and Hiroyuki UCHIKAWA's "Calling Voice Ari".
He has been making efforts to popularize gagaku by performing and commissioning performances of gagaku all over the country.
