FY 2017 Tokyo Culture Program Grant: Support for Overseas Cultural Projects

Business Overview
The project will invite four Syrian artists from several fields who are currently in exile in Germany to the Goethe Institute in Tokyo. Each artist will stay in a former caretaker's apartment for six weeks. Through this transnational artist-in-residence, the Goethe Institute aims to provide a forum for exchange and discussion of the various issues facing artists currently in exile. Along with the research of each participating artist, it provides a venue for them to present their activities during their stay in various forms such as exhibitions, screenings, talks and discussions. Central to the project is the meeting of Syrian artists with members of the Japanese art and cultural scene and the general public.
