Business Overview

This is a continuation of the artist residency that Music from Japan started as a new trial in 2016. Music critics and composers from Japan and the United States were invited to attend lectures, forums, and concerts during their one-week stay in New York City in order to contribute to mutual understanding and artistic enlightenment with American critics and composers. 1) Composition Seminar “Tokuei Shinmi: Approach to Composition and Introduction of His Original Work ”2) Symposium“ Japan and the United States: Composers and Critics Living in Contemporary Society II ”3) Lecture: “Trends in Japanese Contemporary Music – After the 1970 Osaka Expo ”Toshie Kakinuma (musicologist and critic) 4) Concert I:“ Tokuei Shinmi Exhibition ”/Forum I 5) Concert II: “Spread of Japanese Contemporary Music ”Toshie Kakinuma selection/Forum II (including introduction of the Japanese harp)

A voluntary organization established in New York to promote the business of Music From Japan, Inc., which introduces Japanese contemporary music, classical and contemporary Japanese music to the United States and the world. Over the past 40 years, he has commissioned music from Japanese composers, and has held concerts and educational programs in New York, Washington, DC, the United States, Latin America, and Central Asia.
