FY 2017 Tokyo Culture Program Grant: Support for a project to build momentum

Business Overview

Island of Iron Works = Creation Festival that begins on Keihin Island “Tokyo's last frontier, the island of iron works: Keihin Island, Ota Ward, will hold a creative festival!!” A small artificial island with an area of only 1.03km2 in front of Haneda Airport with only one resident. Once bustling with the sounds and fires of ironworks, the island has become an area of waste disposal and recycling centers due to the changing times and the size of individual ironworks. With reference to examples such as SOHO and DUMBO in NY, EAST END in LONDON, and 798 district in Beijing, where a factory area has been revitalized by the creativity of artists, and transformed into a cultural transmission city that attracts tourists from all over the world, the "BUCKLE Kǎ-Bau" project was started last year, in which a part of the ironworks in Keihin Island is used as a place for artists to create works. Taking advantage of the current situation of Keihin Island, we wanted to make the island more interesting and creative while enjoying music, art, movies, camping, etc. With the team of BUCKLE Kă-Bau as the lead, and involving people and organizations around us, "By creating a complex festival like SXSW that mixes various genres of culture such as music, art, and movies, we want to be a catalyst for creating a creative chemistry!" was planned from the thought of “Tekkoshima FES ”.
