In the Meiji Gakuin Chapel (a tangible cultural property designated by Minato Ward) which was built over 100 years ago and is known for its design by the architect Vories, they hold concerts of Western music mainly Baroque music including Johann Sebastian Bach using a pipe organ which is said to have the 'tone of the Bach era'. Meiji Gakuin is a comprehensive educational institution with 1 junior high school, 2 high schools, 6 universities, 15 departments, and 7 graduate schools, 12 majors, with a 154 year tradition that originated from the Hepburn School established by the American medical missionary J.C. Hepburn in 1863 (Bunkyu 3).

Profile

Guy Bovet
Born 1942 in Switzerland. Swiss scholar and educator and composer. Until 2008, he was a professor of the Organ Department at the Basel Conservatoire. Chairperson of the Jury for the International Orgal Competition in Japan. He also taught young people around the world and made a great contribution to the restoration of historic organs in Spain and the spread of organ music. He is a passionate artist who performs both old 15 century music and his own avant-garde works with freshness as if he was born. He leads organists in the world with a clear mind that can freely use eight languages. He has visited Japan several times and has many fans.
