Business Overview

[Project Outline] "Artistic Expression for 10 Years from Now" is a 3 year project that explores the future of art. As the environment surrounding Japan is undergoing major changes along with changes in the political, economic and other international situations, the roles and needs that art plays in society are diversifying, and many attempts are being made. Based on this situation, the possibility of artistic expression in the next 10 years will be discussed and examined through a series of lectures, exhibitions, workshops and other combined methods. [Year 1 of Activities] In the first year, we invited artists, critics, researchers, and curators active at the forefront of artistic practice to discuss and examine the transition of artistic expression since the beginning of the 21 century and the possibilities of artistic expression in the next 10 years. Invited Lecturers: Takeshi Okada (Cognitive Science), Kaori Taguchi (Conservation Science), Osamu Sakura (History of Science), Jason Waite (Curator), Jakob Lilmose (Curator) Laurel Buttak (Curator) Muneki Ujino, Chim↑Pom(Ushiro Ryuta, Hayashi Yasutaka), Tatsu Nishino, Yantu, Kenichi Kondo, Yoshitaka Mori, Fumihiko Sumitomo, Kenji Kubota In Year 2, we discussed the possibilities of artistic expression in the next 10 years with curators from overseas (Jason Waite, Margarida Mendes) based on the discussions in the series of lectures and symposia of "Artistic Expression for 10 Years from Now" held in the first year, and held an exhibition called "The Sleepless Alliance – Art for the Next Decade" in the gallery space of University of Oxford. In this exhibition, 12 artists from Japan and overseas were interviewed about "Art 10 Years Later," and the videos of the interviews were displayed, as well as the works of 5 artists. The book covers a comprehensive part of the three years of activities, and the curators and artists involved in each year's project have written essays and commentaries to explain the project's intentions in an easy-to-understand manner. The exhibition "Marginalia" featured Rintaro FUSE as its curator, and contained many suggestions about the coexistence of humans and machines in the near future, and the resulting changes in human consciousness and spirit.
