Business Overview

The Tokyo Koenji Awa Odori Festival, held in late August every year, has grown into one of Tokyo's most popular festivals, with 10,000 dancers and 1 million spectators. "Tokyo Koenji Awa Odori Taiwan Performance 2017" will be held in Taipei City and New Taipei City, which have friendly relations with Suginami City through friendly baseball exchanges for junior high school students and cultural and artistic exchanges with the National Taiwan Drama Academy, as a tool of cultural and artistic exchange to disseminate "Tokyo Koenji Awa Odori" which is 60 years old this year not only to Tokyo and Japan but also to the world. In the future, by continuing this project, we aim to disseminate the Tokyo Koenji Awa Odori to the world, deepen cross-cultural and international understanding among citizens, and “improve the attractiveness of Suginami, an international city, ” as well as to create a lively atmosphere and inbound business in preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

【 Tokyo Koenji Awa Odori Promotion Association 】
The Tokyo Koenji Awa Odori started in 1957 as a shopping street event to revitalize the town in Koenji, Tokyo. It has gradually expanded over time and has grown to become a typical summer event in Tokyo, Japan, attracting a total of 10,000 dancers and 1 million spectators. It is held on the last weekend of August every year.
In addition, the Awa Odori Ren ("Koenji Awa Odori Ren Association"), which is based in Koenji, shows Awa Odori in various scenes throughout the year, such as media appearances, local events, parties for overseas companies, weddings, etc., and communicates the charm of Awa Odori.
