Business Overview

This is a continuation of the artist residency that Music from Japan started as a new trial in 2016. Music critics and composers from Japan and the United States will be invited to participate in lectures, forums, and concerts during their one-week stay in New York City to contribute to mutual understanding and artistic enlightenment with American critics and composers. 1) Composition Seminar: "Kenji Sakai: An Introduction to His Own Works" 2) Symposium: "Japanese Instrument Works by American Composers" 3) Lecture: "On 'Different Cultures' Surrounding Japan's Contemporary Music World" Fuyuko Fukunaka (Musicologist) 4) Concert I: "Kenji Sakai's Personal Exhibition"/Forum I: "Japan's Contemporary Music World from the Viewpoint of American Critics" 5) Concert II: "A New Direction for Japanese Contemporary Music" Fuyuko Fukunaka's Selected Music/Forum II: "The Present State of Japanese Contemporary Music Creation"
