Business Overview

This is the 17th annual dance showcase. Contemporary dance artists based in Tokyo will be given the opportunity to show in New York, and American presenters and experts will learn about contemporary dance in Tokyo. Performing artists have the opportunity to take the next step by having their work seen live by American audiences and experts. Although it is difficult to disseminate contemporary dance from Japan, by holding a showcase at the Japan Society in New York during the APAP (American Art Fair), it is possible to showcase contemporary dance from Tokyo in the presence of dancers from all over the United States, and to disseminate it overseas. < Program > "Marriage" Choreography/Direction: Yamada Umm Music: Igor Stravinsky Performers: Yamada Umm, Kawai Ron "TranSense" Choreography/Direction/Structure/Performers: Kitamura Akiko Dramaturg: Joe Browne Stage Director: Haraguchi Yoshiko Video, Sound: Navid Navad Lighting: Sakaki Mika Production: Takaki Koichiro

Profile

[Yamada Un]
The witty and unique choreography, the detailed composition, and the dancers' vivid bodies inspire the viewer's intellect and sensitivity at the same time. They have performed in 31 cities in Japan and 23 cities in 15 countries. In recent years, there have been many performances not only in theaters but also in historical buildings and outdoors.

【 Akiko Kitamura 】
Although she was influenced by Western contemporary dance techniques and creative methods, she created a unique choreography method that completely avoids physical contact, as she opposed Western physical communication where easy contact had become the norm.
