FY27 Term II Creation Grant [Single-year grant program]

Business Overview

To commemorate the 150 year anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between Japan and Italy in 2016, a concert of modern Noh songs by Italian composers will be held. Aoki Ryoko (Noh) has collaborated with contemporary music composers and has published nearly 40 pieces. This time, we will present pieces from the repertoire by up-and-coming young Italian composers Gardella and Sanicandro. The second half features Stefano Gervasoni, a composer who represents modern Italy. Gervasoni is an internationally renowned composer who was featured in the 2008 Suntory Music Foundation Summer Festival in Japan as well as a professor of music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. Performers include Italian flute master Mario Caroli, who premiered his music, and the internationally active French Diotima String Quartet, specialists in contemporary music. As a highlight, Gervasoni was commissioned to write a new piece for Ryoko Aoki and the Diotima String Quartet, which will be performed for the world premiere in commemoration of the 150 year anniversary of the conclusion of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between Japan and Italy.
