Business Overview

[Year 1 Project Overview] "Dance New Air" is a biennial international dance festival that started in the fall of 2014, succeeding "Dance Triennale Tokyo" that was held in Aoyama, Tokyo since 2002. With the addition of a pre-project for autumn 2016, we are taking a new step forward. Dance New Air 2016 Pre-Performance Site Specific Series "distant voices – carry on" ~ Aoyama Borikage Date: Saturday, October 10, 2015 - 12th (Mon, national holiday) Venue: Spiral In preparation for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, site-specific works are held as a pre-performance set in the rapidly changing Tokyo streets. The purpose of this exhibition is to let people who are interested in art, those who are interested in architecture and architectural spaces, and those who gather from Japan and overseas in search of the charm of the city of Tokyo know the joy of being able to see things differently through the perception and imagination experienced through intimate performances. The first in this series is a new work "distant voices" ~ Aoyama Borrowed Landscape by Heine Avdal and Yukiko Shinozaki, who received a good reputation for their "Borrowed Landscape- Yokohama," which uses the concept of "borrowed landscape," a traditional Japanese landscaping technique, in urban spaces such as model houses and commercial malls. This is a new type of performance experience in which visitors can enjoy various views based on their own perception and imagination, using the space of Spiral (built by Fumihiko Maki), which celebrates its 30 year anniversary this year. [Year 2 Project Outline] Dance New Air 2016 Schedule (tentative): Tuesday, September 27, 2016 to October 10 (Mon/holiday) Venue: Spiral Hall, DDD Aoyama Cross Theater, Theater Image Forum, etc. Spiral Hall will be the main venue, and DDD Aoyama Cross Theater in the same area, gallery space and restaurant bar in Spiral will be added to replace Aoyama Theater and Aoyama Amphitheater which were closed at the end of March 2015. We will propose multi-faceted encounters with dance such as showing dance films at Theater Image Forum which we have been co-hosting since 2009, book fair at Aoyama Book Center main store, outdoor performance, dance showcase, etc. We have held 6 festivals since 2002, and over the past 13 years, the environment surrounding contemporary dance has changed greatly. More and more people are involved in contemporary dance as an expression of their own, and dance creators are expanding their activities into theater and television, and more and more audiences are drawn into the fun and enjoyment of contemporary dance. In order to further improve this situation, we will further deepen our involvement with children, which will lead to the development of future artists and audiences. We will of course enhance programs for child-rearing generations to enjoy and childcare during performances. We will also develop programs that can reach out to the senior generation. Dance New Air will continue to aim for the festival to exist as a place where all generations can experience culture and art as something close to them, and to nurture sensitive originality and communication skills.
