FY27 Term I Creation Grant [Single-Year Grant Program]

Business Overview

This project is to perform "Chapter of Necia," the 11 poem from Homer's epic epic epic epic epic about ancient Greece "The Odyssey," in a Noh style. Mikhail Marmarinos, a leading director of modern Greece, says that Homer's epic poem is a song, not a literature, and that Nohgaku is a song, not a play. In other words, this work originates from the conviction that Nohgaku is the only means to embody Homer's 11 poems, 'Necia' (Japanese translation: Heppuko), on the stage. It is a collaboration between Noh and ancient Greek drama using Noh drama structure and body expression as a method to express the underworld journey of Odysseus, a hero who led the Greek army to victory in the Trojan War, who went down to the underworld to know what was necessary to reach his homeland. This is a joint project of Nikki to express a world view in which the dead and the living come and go, which cannot be understood by modern concepts including today's Greek and Christian religions, by using a method of Nohgaku that makes us imagine that it has genes of ancient Greek theater.
