FY26 Term I Creation Grant [Single-Year Grant Program]

Business Overview

"GEORAMA 2014" is a preparatory meeting for "GEORAMA," an animation festival to be launched by CALF, a group of writers and critics who have been actively screening and introducing mainly short animations since 2010, aiming at autumn 2015. Commercial productions boast enormous popularity in Japan, but this situation has overshadowed other forms of animation. This project aims to expand and deviate from the concept of animation by shaking up the current situation with the following two approaches. (1) To introduce to Japanese audiences the latest in a variety of animation expressions from overseas that will be shown at the "animation film festival" scene, which has developed mainly in Europe, and (2) To create a program that will make Japanese audiences rethink what the word "animation" can encompass by recognizing hybrid and non-genre collaborations with adjacent genres such as music, theater, live-action films, and documentary films.

Profile

[CALF Godo Kaisha]
CALF was formed in 2010 by young animation artists and young critics with the aim of introducing the works of internationally active short film artists to both Japan and overseas. By continuously producing and selling DVDs of short story authors' works, distributing excellent short stories in and out of Japan to theaters, and planning screening events, the organization aims to improve not only the production of short stories but also the environment for their distribution. Their activities have been highly praised and have attracted international attention, with special screenings at film festivals overseas.
