FY 2013 Phase I Tokyo Arts and Culture Promotion Grant (Single Year Grant Program)

Business Overview
Since the beginning of the 21 century, many works have been produced in the world of contemporary music with increasingly musical expressions, but there is still a long time before the latest trends are introduced to Japan. On the other hand, many historical works from the 20 century have not been performed in Japan due to the difficulty of performing them. Furthermore, with the exception of a small number of composers, very few Japanese contemporary works have been introduced overseas. "Tokyo Genon Keikaku" is a new ensemble group that brings together musicians who are active at the forefront of Japan, with the aim of introducing high-quality contemporary music from Japan and abroad and making a dent in the situation in Japan from the standpoint of performing. This year, as "Italy Special Feature," programming including new commissioned works will be performed by Mr. Yoichi Sugiyama, a composer who lives in Italy, and as a musician's selection, member Sumitoshi Arima will perform unique programming focusing on difficult pieces of Luigi Nono.

The current members are Sumitoshi Arima (electronics), Masanori Oishi (saxophone), Yoshiko Kanda (percussion instruments), Aki Kuroda (piano), and Shinya Hashimoto (tuba).
