Profile
【 Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Tokyo Nikikai 】
The vocal group "Nikikai" was formed in 1952 (Showa 27) with 12 like-minded vocalists led by 4 young vocalists, soprano Harue MIYAKE, alto Senshi KAWASAKI, tenor Mutsuriku SHIBATA and baritone Teiichi NAKAYAMA. The name "Nikikai" was given from the pride that they were a group for the next generation with the mission of inheriting and further developing the legacy as well as remembering the efforts of their predecessors, regarding the opera and vocal music movement in our country as the first stage.
Among the activities of "opera performances," "vocalists' circle," "music office," and "opera training facility," in order to continue opera performances stably, a strong financial foundation and a reliable support system were necessary. In June 1977 (Showa 52), with the approval of the Minister of Education, the foundation was established as "Nikikai Opera Promotion Foundation" (the name at that time) for the purpose of performing opera activities related to Nikikai. Together with the vocalist group "Nikikai," it has been providing high-quality performances for the spread and development of opera in Japan as the largest performing organization in Japan.
After that, the "Nikikai" was dissolved in September 2005 (Heisei 17), 53 years after its formation, and it was incorporated into the vocal music membership organization "Nikikai" of "Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Tokyo Nikikai," but it has more than 2,700 members and associate members in total and continues its activities as before.
