Business Overview
The Summer Festival has been held every year since 1987 to promote contemporary music and introduce new works from overseas. This year, to commemorate its 25 year anniversary, the opera "Orestia" trilogy by Yanis Xenakis will be performed with a new staging for Suntory Hall, inviting the Spanish director group La Fra Dels Baus. The conductor will be Yamada Kazuki, a young conductor who won the Besancon Conductors Competition in 2009.

With the aim of contributing to the development of Western music and the enhancement of culture in Japan, the Foundation conducts a wide range of activities, including awards to individuals and groups who have made outstanding achievements in the field of Western music, various projects to "promote Japanese compositions," introduction of 20 century music, publication, and others. These programs have succeeded the Torii Music Foundation, which was established in 1969 to commemorate Suntory's 70 year anniversary.
