Business Overview

The purpose of the performance of this project "Coral Gamelan Mandala" was to clarify the correlation between the rhythmic sense of "fluctuation" of gamelan in Indonesia, the habitat of coral, and the acoustics generated from the accumulation of enormous time until the formation of coral skeleton, by connecting coral and gamelan and penetrating the acoustic characteristics inherent in coral skeleton into the gamelan performance.

[Mamoru Fujieda]
He studied music composition under Yuasa Joji and Morton Feldman. Developed "plant pattern" based on potential change data of plants. His books include "[Enlarged] The Archaeology of Acoustics" and the amazon e-book "The Acoustics of Solitude". There are many CD albums such as "Clavichord botanical pattern," "Renaissance botanical pattern," "Gamelan mandala," "Kareno: botanical pattern song book," etc.
Recently, he presented a performance of "coral gamelan mandala" which combines coral skeleton sound and gamelan. Professor Emeritus, Kyushu University. He is a research fellow at Kikaijima Coral Reef Science Institute. Ph.D. in Music (University of California, San Diego).
