Profile
[Yokohama Boat Theater]
Led by playwright and director Takuo Endo, the company began its activities in 1981, using a wooden boat moored on the Nakamura River in Yokohama as a theater. With an "Asian" theme, the company presents festive plays that tell epic tales centered around masks, narration, and dance-like physical expression. Their signature work, "Oguri - hangan Terute - hime," has received high praise and been invited to numerous theater festivals overseas. In 2020, Saya Yoshioka became the company's representative, and the company continues to create theatrical works that incorporate techniques such as puppetry and shadow puppetry, and are deeply rooted in prayer.
