Artist unit KOSUGE1-16 will hold an art project called "Where are you? Giant Paper Sumo" in Sumida, which has a deep connection with sumo. In workshops called "tours" held in four "rooms" in Sumida Ward, teams come up with ideas to create giant sumo wrestlers of real size out of cardboard boxes, and the children's rich ideas give birth to wrestlers with unique sumo ring names and special skills. A total of 32 sumo wrestlers gather from each stable in the "honbasho," a tournament in which the wrestlers beat the ring to determine the best wrestler. A stable master gives commentary, a yobi performs a taiko drum, and there are demonstrations of sumo jinku and yumitori shiki to introduce sumo culture alive in the community. The event will be held with the cooperation of sumo officials and the local community, with local businesses offering prizes.

[Sumidagawa Shinrabansho Sumi ni Yume Executive Committee]
Sumidagawa Shinrabansho Sumi ni Yume is an art project that started in 2016 with the opening of the Sumida Hokusai Museum. Centered on Sumida, where Katsushika Hokusai spent his 90 year life, this project aims to enliven the area by bringing together people who engage in various forms of expression, not just art and culture. Under the main themes of "Hokusai" and "Sumida River," a variety of projects utilizing Sumida's local resources are held for four months every autumn in the town and river spaces.
