Business Overview

Now in its 47 th year, the Tagaya Ume Festival featured a variety of events, including Japanese drum performances by local groups and rice cake making by the Sandoshirai Association. In the Japanese drum performance, performers including local elementary school students gave a powerful performance, and the sound of the powerful drums spread throughout the venue, greatly enlivening the plum festival. In addition, many visitors stopped to watch the traditional way of making mochi, which is designated as an intangible folk cultural asset of Setagaya. Freshly pounded mochi were served in two flavors, kinako and anko, and were well received by visitors.

Setagaya Plum Festival Executive Committee
The idea of holding the Setagaya Plum Festival in the plum grove in Hanegi Park started around 1976 with the participation of local organizations such as the local shopping district and neighborhood associations. The first plum festival was held in 1978 with the support of Setagaya Ward. At present, various organizations including local shopping districts, neighborhood associations and residents' associations in the vicinity of the festival site, and public agencies such as the police and fire departments participate as executive committee members, and the executive committee conducts activities for holding the Ume Matsuri through repeated discussions.
