Business Overview

"Recreation (wet)," a solo exhibition by Takafumi SAKANAKA, is a new work series that develops a critical approach to the modern exhibition space of the white cube, centering on climbing. So far, Sakanaka has intervened in space through physical activities such as climbing using waste materials and living in the air. In this exhibition, he will introduce mud and soil and practice "playing" in the exhibition space. Mud holds are installed on the walls, and as the artist climbs, the mud diffuses and spreads to the space and the outside. “Recreation, ” which means leisure, and“ wet, ” which suggests guilt and danger, shake the boundaries between play and institutions, nature and the artificial. By introducing the element of mud, which had originally been excluded, the commonality between art and play is brought to light, and the practice combines criticism of the system and humor.
