Two-Language Training Experience Program at a Noh Theater
Business Overview
This project is a bilingual Noh experience program in Japanese and English sponsored by Hosho-kai and held at Hosho Noh Theater (Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo).
For both Japanese and foreigners, the program provided an opportunity to physically experience traditional performing arts through learning the basic knowledge of Nohgaku and practicing utai and shimai.
The program was divided into three periods, each of which lasted about three months.
Nohgakushi Takeda Iza and Tatsumi Kazuma acted as instructors and taught the participants.
The participants deepened their understanding of Nohgaku through step-by-step practice, and at the end of each period, a presentation meeting was held at the Hosho Noh Theater. By creating a bilingual teaching environment, opportunities for foreign participants to learn Nohgaku were expanded and cultural exchanges with Japanese participants were promoted.
The purpose of this project is not only to appreciate Nohgaku, but also to spread Nohgaku as a culture in which people learn and engage continuously, and to lead to the training of new players.

Public Interest Incorporated Association Hosho-kai is a public interest corporation that works for the purpose of popularizing and passing on the Hosho school of Nohgaku, and as one of the schools of Nohgaku with a long history, it is working to preserve and develop traditional performing arts.
Based on the Hosho Noh Theater, they have continuously held Noh performances, practiced by Noh actors, fostered younger performers, and conducted educational activities.
Through the stage activities and instruction of the affiliated Nohgakushi, Nohgaku culture is passed on to the next generation, and efforts are also made to convey its appeal to people in Japan and abroad and create new Nohgaku experiences in modern society.
