Is the truth of flamenco cutting off one's roots or nurturing one's roots? Each dancer confronts his own truth and lies. Photo: Gao Ik Ik

Poyin sings a traditional Lukai folk song from Kaohsiung. Lu murmurs a voice beyond meaning as if squeezing it out of his body. Photo: Gao Ik Ik

The Tainan performance was sold out. I felt something nostalgic in the town of Tainan. I felt the warmth of the Taiwanese people in Taipei and Tainan, and I was filled with gratitude for the kindness of the people I met. Photo: Gao Ik Ik

Business Overview

'Beautiful Lies MENTIRA FORMOSA,' which premiered in 2025 with support from Arts Council Tokyo, is a work that explores the essence of flamenco—where lies surpass the truth—using fake books about Taiwan and Japan as its theme. Its artistic value has been highly evaluated, and it has received ongoing support as well as many requests for a revival. In July 2026, this project will be revived in Taipei and Tainan, deepening dialogue on the history and cultural intersection of both Japan and Taiwan, and further developing collaborative creation. This project began in 2024 as an international joint production between the flamenco communities of Taiwan and Japan. We cherish the bonds we have built and will continue to foster exchanges among flamenco lovers.

Profile

[Mano Flamenco International Exchange Executive Committee]
The Mano Flamenco International Exchange Executive Committee was formed on July 1, 2023. The theme of flamenco itself is organically fused with the climate, history and culture of each country and city. In doing so, it cooperates internationally with other organizations and individuals engaged in flamenco and conducts performance activities, lectures and workshops.
The theme "Lies go beyond the truth" is an epoch-making concept that brings to light the depths that superficial international exchange can never reach. Combining Dubai's magnetic field with organic concepts related to truth and lies, the series of performances of Beautiful Lies will be developed.
