About the Sydney Biennale

The Sydney Biennial is one of the world's leading contemporary art festivals. Since its creation in 1973, it has provided a platform for art and thought, showcasing the works of more than 2,400 artists from more than 130 countries and territories. It is now widely recognized as an international contemporary art exhibition that commissions and presents innovative and thought-provoking works from Australia and around the world.

The theme of the 25 th exhibition is "Rememory." Remembering is the act of reassembling pieces of the personal, family, or collective past. It is a concept for revisiting, reconstructing and reclaiming history that has been erased or suppressed, and it symbolizes the point where memory and history intersect. This exhibition sheds light on the delicate space between “memory ” and“ forgetting ”. By confronting Rememory, the artists bring to light marginalized stories, share voices that have not been spoken, and ask the audience how memory can shape identity, sense of belonging, and the creation and celebration of new communities and connections.
