Talents Tokyo The Executive Committee has been co-hosting the 'Talents Tokyo' program every autumn since 2010 with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture Arts Council Tokyo, aiming to foster 'talents' who have the potential to become 'next-generation masters' to strengthen creativity and communication in the film field in Tokyo. This human resource development program invites young Asian filmmakers and producers to Tokyo and offers opportunities to learn know-how for succeeding globally through a seven-day workshop. Additionally, this project is the only Asian edition of 'Berlinale Talents,' held as part of the Berlin International Film Festival, for overseas expansion. Many graduates have won awards at international film festivals such as Cannes and Venice, and have produced numerous filmmakers active worldwide.
The 17th edition of "Talents Tokyo 2026" will be held under the theme "The Suspended Steps of Storytellers," held on Monday, November 23 ~ Sunday, November 29. A public presentation open to the public is also planned (advance registration is required for coverage and viewing). Details regarding the release date will be announced later.
As a result of selection, 17 participants (talents) have been selected. The following four international professionals will serve as the main lecturers. Film director Midi Gee, producer Tan Sien, world sales lecturer Ola Bishuk and Christina Justo from Berlinale Talents.
We also announce that we have selected projects that are expected to expand globally in the future to be eligible for the Next Masters Support Program.
Ahead of "Talents Tokyo 2026," as a pre-event, a special screening of works by graduates of the Talents will be held on Friday, November 6th ~ Sunday, November 8th at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum Hall. The films to be screened are: "Because I Don't Want to Die Alone" (2024) directed by Janus Victoria (TT2013 graduate), "Spring Journey" (2023) directed by Wang Pinwen (TT2019 graduate), and "Silent Autobiography" (2022) directed by Makbal Mubarak (TT2025 graduate). Post-screening directors' Q&A sessions are also planned. Additionally, on November 8, a cross-talk featuring director Kaori Oda (TT2015 graduate) and producer Masumi Soga (TT2011 graduate) will be moderated, with Tokyo International Film Festival programmer Yutaka Shimizu as moderator.
