This time, we will focus on the professional perspective of sign language interpreters and present a lecture on the interpersonal skill of 'demand control schema.'

Course content
The training program will focus on the responsibilities and roles of sign language interpreters and the professional ethics they must uphold. In addition, we will explain the importance of recognizing oneself as a professional based on the demand control schema and examine case studies.
What perspectives are needed to pursue the work of sign language interpretation more deeply? In addition to interpretation skills, I will think with you from the perspective of artistry.

Instructor Profile
Machiko Takagi
He was a Japanese-English translator and interpreter, but it has been 30 years since he became a sign language interpreter. Since 2001, she has been working as an interpreter for a special type of sign language called Japanese Sign Language between spoken English and English. She has supported the international activities of the Deaf in various occasions such as UN conferences in New York and Thailand, the World Congress of the Deaf, and the Deaflympics. Since 2012, she has worked as a sign language interpreter coordinator for many international conferences. It also conducts training in interpretation for sign language interpreters throughout the country. He has also worked as a part-time lecturer at the National Rehabilitation Center for the Disabled and the Japan University of Social Work, and is currently providing training to current sign language interpreters around the country that leads to practical sign language interpretation based on the demand control schema.
Naoko Iizumi
Sign language interpreter and instructor for sign language interpreter skills training. Member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Promotion Department in private company HR, NHK Sign Language News anchor, Head of the Sign Language Interpretation Department at Setagaya Welfare Vocational School, the first private institution to train sign language interpreters, Specially Appointed Professor in charge of the Academic Sign Language Interpreter Training Project at the National Museum of Ethnology Japan Foundation (in charge of the Academic Sign Language Interpreter Training Project), and Director of the Public Support Division at the Center for Information and Culture for the Deaf. Currently, he works as a freelancer providing sign language interpreting, sign language interpretation coordination, and specialized sign language interpreting training. He served as an instructor and coordinator for the 'Sign Language Interpretation Training Program for the Arts and Culture Field' (hosted by Tokyo and Arts Council Tokyo) in fiscal years 2024 and 2005.
