What we do

FY2025
Creative Well-being Tokyo

This project is aimed at building an environment where everyone can access and enjoy arts and culture through metropolitan cultural facilities and cultural projects. As well as expanding and improving the environment allowing diverse people including the elderly, people with disabilities, infants, and people with roots overseas to participate in cultural projects and create together, we will work on program validation, program model development, and onsite practice and research. In partnership with metropolitan cultural facilities, cultural projects, NPOs (engaging with social issues in the community), etc., we will promote and disseminate the initiatives needed for arts and culture going forward.

Events Information

Creative Well-being Tokyo

In addition to developing advanced initiatives to improve the quality of assistive technology tools and support for cultural facilities and cultural projects, as a partner program we will implement research, verification, and development related to accessibility. We will also hold conferences in Japan allowing everyone to connect through culture. These conferences are designed to communicate efforts towards achieving a symbiotic society through arts and culture, and to propagate knowledge gleaned from international conferences as well as advanced initiatives to a domestic and global audience.

TURN LAND Program

This is a program in which welfare facilities and social support groups plan and develop art projects together with artists. We are rolling out two initiatives, “TURN LAND” and “Pre-LAND,” to cultivate better understanding of diverse values and characteristics through project practices and create even more engaging activities in daily life. The implementation process will be accompanied by coordinators, who will provide operational support according to situational requirements on the ground. The aim is to build new relationships with local communities, and to communicate and share project-driven insights both internally and externally.

Improving accessibility to arts and culture

By working towards improving accessibility in metropolitan cultural facilities and cultural projects developed by Arts Council Tokyo, we will create an environment enabling everyone to easily access art and culture. We will promote initiatives designed to improve the provision of information and services prior to visiting cultural facilities/participating in cultural projects, and to enrich the experience of watching/participating in performances, exhibitions, and programs. Additionally, we will create an environment that allows a diverse range of people, including people with disabilities, to be involved in project planning and management. We will also provide training and grants etc. for leading practitioners of art and culture.

We will also roll out campaigns to build momentum for initiatives designed to improve accessibility to arts and culture, primarily in fall when Tokyo hosts the World Athletics Championships and the Deaflympics, and widely provide information on accessible exhibitions, performances, etc. in the metropolitan area.
