The 36th Ogikubo Music Festival held a total of 46 performances at 23 venues. We were able to bring it back to about 80% compared to before the coronavirus pandemic. Many venues were fully booked with advance reservations, and I felt that the momentum to enjoy live music is once again gaining momentum. The “Fresh Junior Concert” was held for the 11th time, and there were many scenes where children who were proud of their skills gathered and showed off their skills that rivaled the adults. We will continue to adhere to our philosophy of “It’s not a competition, we don’t compete.” Continuing from last year, we invited the Minamisoma City Haramachi Daiichi Junior High School Brass Band for the 9th Future Dream Concert. The Suginami Youth Wind Orchestra, made up of junior high school students from Suginami Ward, was organized and participated in this performance. The sight of them deepening their interactions through solo and joint performances moved many in the audience. We will continue to operate as a music festival for Ogikubo, a city that is easy to live in and a place that is a good place to live.
Meeting of “Ogikubo, a town where you can enjoy classical music”
The 21st Century Ogikubo Thinking Group was formed with the aim of making proposals on how Ogikubo can be made easier to live in, such as the development of the area in front of JR Ogikubo Station and the surrounding environmental problems. The Ogikubo Music Festival was started in 2000 with the concept of urban development and revitalization of Ogikubo through music. Since then, the festival has continued to be held annually.
