This production attempts to reconstruct a Grimm tale with the theme of “The 2025 Crisis” for the young generation today. For K-BALLET Opto’s newest production “Cinderella”, upcoming talent from multiple fields have united to retell the famous tale through the eyes of a “young-carer”. Choreography is by Giuseppe Spota, current artistic director of Musik im Revier Dance Company in Germany, and mentee to Mauro Bigonzetti. The original plot is by Tahi Saihate, an award-winning Japanese Poet, famous for her direct and honest expression. Tahi wrote a collection of poems titled “I Can’t Become Cinderella” which serves as a starting point for the production.
Music is composed by Christof Littman in collaboration with Ei Wada. Ei’s band, Electronicos Fantasticos!, transforms worn out electronics, such as ventilators and retro braun-tube TVs, into instruments through the use of static electricity. Costume design is by Mikage Shin, an upcoming frontrunner in the realm of genderless fashion. The image for the poster is drawn for this production by Yuko Higuchi. Finally, the following dancers bring with them their delicate expression and experience; Yuki Mori, Hana Sakai, and Ayumi Shiraishi. This collection of experienced and upcoming artists from different fields presents their intricate work through this production of “Cinderella”.
