“up roar”

Outline
Since the theater group was founded, the project [SEKITA IKUKO] has been thinking about the duality between fiction and reality in theater. In particular, the group espouses a palpable sense of duality as a new form of theatrical experience, something attained when the audience has an equal perception of fiction and reality. The group believes that a theatrical experience like this creates a new perspective that is not confined to existing perceptions, which are determined by their usefulness to our lives in the present. In order to create this theatrical experience, it is necessary to examine one by one the relationships between the different elements comprising a play (performance space, the play, the physical body, etc.).
For this project, the group added music – an element of theater it had not previously engaged with – and explored new ways for the audience to experience this duality for themselves.

Profile

SEKITA IKUKO
Established in 2019 as theatrical unit SEKITA IKUKO.
The unit advocates what it calls “theater through a wide-angle lens”in which the actors’ bodies and the walls and floor of the theater have equal value for the audience, creating theatrical works as the practice of this philosophy.
In 2023, “micro wave” won both the Grand Prize and Audience Award at the Kanagawa Short Drama Award 2023.
