A story that imagines Japan having taken a slightly different path.
The “Transfer Act” stipulates that randomly selected young people must carry out decommissioning work at nuclear power plants.
The play is an intricate reiteration of the daily lives of the young people selected under the “Transfer Act” as well as the daily lives of a filmmaker who make films about the “Transfer Act.” In the process, it elucidates the themes of nuclear power plant decommissioning and the sense of distance from reality, bringing to the fore issues that people today look away from.

A theatrical unit formed in 2023 centering around Shoichi Kihara, a Keio University theater club member. The unit gets its name from a combination of MAVO, the group who pioneered the Dada movement in Japan, and “labolatory,” based on the English word “laboratory” and suggesting experimentation. Based on troupe leader Kihara’s scripts – themed around a world that is “neither too far nor too near” and an extension of the everyday – the unit creates works highlighting societal challenges and absurdities. Its productions are characterized by the use of unique props, including giant pieces of cloth and letters which stir the audience’s imagination.
