A fictional Japan. The light of a small signboard on the national highway going along the coast. All that is written on the sign is “MOTEL” in capital letters. The proprietor Kyoko Kirino took over the place from her late husband Kento and leads a modest life there. Kyoko has a son, Hikaru, who she dotes on. Hikaru, a Self-Defense Force officer, was a pilot for the Squadron 11. But one day, Hikaru goes missing during a flight.
Three years later, in the port town where Kyoko lives, rumors begin to fly about a messenger of the gods, a “whale that makes wishes come true.” In order to find the whale, Kyoko calls on three yakuza members she looked after in the past….
“I want you to bring Hikaru back to me.”
At the mercy of God’s miracles, Kyoko eventually becomes unable to hide her own sins.
