Outline

This project was held at three venues in Tokyo over a two-month period around the date of promulgation of the Constitution of Japan, and focused on the Constitution and art by combining the articles of the Constitution with works of art in an exhibition.

The exhibition director was Naoko Sumi (curator, Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art). 25 artists and approximately 40 artworks participated in the exhibition, which were composed of a wide range of genres including video, painting, photography, illustration, and art objects.

“The Constitution of JAPAN” Exhibition Production Committee
“The Constitution of JAPAN” Exhibition is inspired by the book “The Constitution of Japan” (edited by Gento Matsumoto, TAC Publishing), which was published in 2019. “The Constitution of JAPAN” Exhibition selects new works that are different from those published in the book and combines them with the articles of the Constitution of Japan. Aiming to experience the Constitution and to reexamine it from a new perspective, the exhibition is an activity that communicates the appeal of the Constitution and art.
