Nous nous convulsions: Homage to the surrealist Ghérasim Luca, 30 years after his death

Outline

This production themed around the Romanian-born surrealist Ghérasim Luca was organized by four musicians who have been making a splash in Japan and overseas in recent years: Paris-based composer Masahiro Aogaki, composer and media artist Chiku Komiya, soprano Kanae Mizobuchi, and percussionist Yukari Yagi. Each musician created and presented a performance piece in response to Luca’s convulsive works. A concurrent exhibition featured works by Komiya and Aogaki as well as material related to Luca.
There was also a special performance by guest Christophe Collin, a French stage actor who has made readings of Luca’s poetry his life’s work.

Profile

Chiku KOMIYA
Media artist and composer. He explores new music by examining contemporary media environments and physicality to rethink various norms and forms of music radically. He works across disciplines, from score-based musical works to electroacoustic works, media performances and installations. In recent years, he has presented his work in a combined installation and live performance format both domestically and internationally.
He received the Art Division New Face Award, 24th Japan Media Arts Festival 2021 and the Second Prize in the 87th Annual Music Competition of Japan, Composition Division.
