Profile

Yamato Showa
Graduated from the Department of Traditional Japanese Music, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts, and completed the Master’s Program at Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School.
1999: Succeeded to the name Yamato Showa, the seventh-generation head of the Yamato-ha Yamada-ryu school of koto music.
2001: Received the Encouragement Award at the 5th Victor Foundation Awards.
2002: Received the Excellence Award at the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Arts Festival during the 1st Yamato Showa no Kai concert.
2008: Received the New Artist Award at the Matsuo Performing Arts Awards.
2023: Received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Award at the 73rd Geijutsu Sensho Awards.

Currently serves as:

Executive Director of the Japan Sankyoku Association (Nihon Sankyoku Kyokai)
Director of the Yamada-ryu Koto Association
Member of the Shinchokai Koto Association
Member of the Kumika Koto Association
Member of the Hogaku Group Sho no Kai
Instructor of koto music at Atomi Gakuen Junior and Senior High School
