By organizing a concert of French choral music—seldom performed in Japan—we shone a light on lesser-known aspects of the choral repertoire and contributed to the development of choral music in Japan. Our program featured a wide range of French choral works, from classic pieces by Saint-Saëns to music by contemporary composers Tanguy, Zavaro, and Machuel.
Verset Versé
Verset Versé is a French phrase meaning “poured verse.” Formed at the invitation of choral conductor Kota Yanagishima for the JCDA Choral Festival 2022. This vocal ensemble was created to perform composer Akira Nishimura’s Mizu no Kitō (Water Prayer) under his own baton. It comprises both professional and semi-professional singers who share a strong interest in performing contemporary music. Despite having only 18 members for the Mizu no Kitō performance, the ensemble drew attention for its wide expressive range. Going forward, they aim to refine their skills and sensitivities while promoting a diverse repertoire, with a particular focus on contemporary works.
