Outline

ASAKUSA Entertainments 2023-2024 is a year-round, community-based art festival. Pre-events from September 2023 to January 2024 included the “Dark Ecology” exhibition with the pictures on Jusatsu Kito Sodan (Hanaga Mitsutoshi), a monks- collective casting spells upon the corporate owners, Mikhail Karikis & Maruan Sipert’s performance “listening stones making landscapes,” and the Amsterdam-based design and art collective Metahaven’s first solo exhibition in Japan, “Holding the Storm”. As a climax of this project, a three-week period from June 28 to July 15, 2024, featured Choy Kafai’s solo exhibition “In Search of the Tragic Spirits” at ASAKUSA and Yu Cheng-Ta’s pop-up event “Fancy Fantasy! by FAMEME” at Shinjuku Kabuki-cho.

【ASAKUSA Executive Committee】
ASAKUSA is a 40-square-meter project space created from a renovated residential building. In addition to presenting artistic expression with a solid societal foundation by artists from Japan and overseas, the space promotes collaboration between curators. The Committee organizes “ASAKUSA Entertainments,” an art festival which provides support for artists in the creating and showing of their works.

“Fancy Fantasy! by FAMEME” was held at AWAKE (Kabuki-cho, Shinjuku-ku)
All other events were held at ASAKUSA (Taito-ku, Tokyo).
