Sukitootta Hontou no Tabemono -True Crystalline Food- 2024: Live story telling session with sign, music and narration

  • Organization : Monogatari Group☆Polan no Kai
  • Section : None
  • Type of Grant Program : Single

Outline

The live story-telling session of Kenji Miyazawa’s works with diverse artists including deaf performers, a blind violinist and narrators. Based on the first production last year, multiple elements have been improved. The music, sign language, narrator performance, audio guide, and subtitles have been all updated to incorporate feedback from last year’s audience. In addition to the sign performance, which are integrated in the work, advanced audience support initiatives were newly implemented; the animated subtitles with onomatopoeia -Polan no Kai’s original- and the performance script in modern kana syllabary (distributed in advance and at the venue). The real-time audio guide was provided for all performances. For the audio guide, we explored a question from last year’s performance, ‘How to translate sign movements into audio guides’, on the other project. The audio guides were provided after brush-up based on the feedback from the project.

Profile

【Monogatari Group☆Polan no Kai】
Founded in 2004, this company only performs works by Kenji Miyazawa. The members mainly plan, produce, and perform in the plays, and while continuing to convey the message of “living” through Kenji’s works, they also engage in creative activities that value the process of taking on challenges. Since 2014, they have been performing with audio guides and stage explanations, and since 2019, they have been continuously producing and presenting projects that use “sign language,” “music,” and “narration” to allow everyone, including the hearing and visually impaired, to enjoy the works in the same space.
