This theatre company was founded in 1997 by Toshiki Okada, who writes and directs all of its productions. The troupe has been applauded for its unique use of language and physicality, and is a focus of keen attention, both inside and outside Japan, as one of the leaders of contemporary theatre. It made its debut abroad with a performance of “Five Days in March” (the winner of the 49th Kishida Kunio Drama Award) in 2007, and has since performed works in more than 90 cities around the world. In recent years, the company has increasingly been receiving commissions to produce works for festivals in other countries, and continues to widen the sphere of its activities.
