With the aim of improving and developing as a group, this was Santentouritu’s first theatrical performance outside of showcases. Additionally, it has adopted a new system enabling more sustainable creation. To prevent the playwright being isolated at the initial creative stage (writing a play from scratch), and to explore an egalitarian creative system, for the first time as a group the new system saw two members in charge of writing and directing.
Santentouritu used an actor with a unique form of physicality (in terms of variation, tension, posture) as a guest performer so it could think about on-stage poses. It aimed for a stage work that combined the actor’s own consciousness with consciousness of the role, and mixed actual physical performance and lines.

santentouritu
A theatrical collective formed in 2022 by members of J.F. Oberlin University, Tokyo, College of Performing and Visual Arts, B.A Theater and Dance Program. With a focus on the people neglected by society and their ongoing daily lives, the group creates a theatrical world that shows awareness of the continuation between life inside and outside of the theater. It portrays the fragility and changeability of human life through humorous physical performance and dialog.
