Outline

A performance of Nihon Buyo and Ryukyu Buyo dance. Making full use of the techniques of classical Nihon Buyo, the performance provided a magnificent picture of Ryukyu history, demonstrated together with virtuosos of Ryukyu Buyo dance. The first edition of the “Possibility of NIHONBUYO” performance series featuring Nihon Buyo artist Rankoh Fujima as artistic director was performed in 2018. Since then, the series has uncovered the potential of Nihon Buyo dance through collaborative performances with artists in diverse genres such as video, piano, and ballet. This sixth edition was a collaboration between Nihon Buyo and Ryukyu Buyo dance. It dramatized Ryukyu’s magnificent history using an original interpretation. A new Nihon Buyo work was created and premiered for the event.

Profile

Daichi Corporation
Led by Nihon Buyo artist Rankoh Fujima, Daichi was formed in 2014. The goal of Daichi’s activities is the preservation, management, examination and research of classical Nihon Buyo works passed down from Rankoh’s great-grandmother Kanpachi Fujima, as well as the training of professionals to communicate the “art of Daichi,” and the introduction of Nihon Buyo to a wider audience through its performance program.
