Outline

The Nishitama region is located in the westernmost part of Tokyo and has eight administrative districts (Ome City, Hamura City, Akiruno City, Fussa City, Mizuho Town, Hinode Town, Okutama Town, and Hinohara Village). In the Nishi-Tama region, where opportunities for children to experience culture and art are decreasing, we aimed to provide an opportunity to comprehensively guarantee children’s cultural rights by developing performing arts activities for children in all eight administrative districts and working to create places for experience and regional creation. At that time, we valued the presence of cultural activities in the lives and livelihoods of children, and addressed the poverty of children’s experiences by implementing them in children’s living areas (elementary school districts) and incorporating programs that can be participated in free of charge. In addition, we have built cooperative relationships not only with our corporation but also with local organizations, governments, and companies, and realized a festival that we create together. In addition to the stages in each administrative district, activities were held in each elementary school district to develop a program rooted in the community. In the appreciation activities, the puppet show of the puppet theater company Hitomiza played a central role in the program, and we devised a way to create a common experience all over Nishitama.
