Outline

A theatrical performance planned by a collaboration between an illustrator-director who specializes in depicting girls and a playwright who explores the concept of girlhood.

Cast: Raiki Ishikura, Sakina Hatanaka, and Mayuka Nakajima.

The production adapts the Noh play Teika, shifting its setting to the Taisho era while structuring the story as a recollection from the present. This creates a temporal flow connecting the Muromachi, Taisho, and modern eras, revealing the unchanging essence of humanity and the pathological aspects of society over hundreds of years.

By incorporating the structure of mugen-noh (dreamlike Noh) into contemporary theater, the performance seeks to establish a new theatrical style. At the same time, it critically examines the enduring relationship between “society” or the ie (traditional household system) and women, as well as the way love-often regarded as a positive emotion-can, within the confines of the ie, function in ways contrary to the will of those involved.

Profile

Sansantarugosan
A fun group that organizes theatrical performances, painting exhibitions, and other artistic events. The members are responsible for scriptwriting, directing, art, and management. Those who once engaged with society under the identity of “girlhood” now weave stories with a fantastical and slightly dark worldview, using “girl” as a central theme.
