【ZEITAKU BINBOU】
Tokyo-based theater company launched in 2012. Yuri Yamada writes and directs all works. While seamlessly moving between the stage and the auditorium, between reality and fantasy, and the line between normalcy and madness, the group’s characteristic pop sensibility highlights the problems faced by modern Japanese society by applying bold imagination and a range of techniques. In 2014 the group began rolling out its “uchi-project,” which involves the long-term rental of houses and apartments where group members can create and perform. It was nominated for the Kishida Kunio Drama Award with “Fiction City” (2017), and “Mixture” (2019). It has been expanding the scope of its activities both in Japan and overseas: for example, the Chinese version of “Everyone Fears the Night” (first performed in 2015) toured all over China, and “I’m Trying to Understand You, But…”(first performed in 2019) was staged in Paris as part of the official program for Festival d’Automne à Paris in 2022.
