nosmosis research 2024

  • Organization : nosmosis Organizing Committee
  • Section : None
  • Type of Grant Program : Single

Outline

Spearheaded by Ema Yuasa, nosmosis continued to hold dance and dialogue workshops, in which it attempted to use the body as a communication tool to experiment with dialog, as well as workshops for dancers. Based on the relationships built with workshop participants, together with Jija Sohn, a collaborating artist from the previous year, and documentary film director Yu Miyai, the group engaged in research centering on interviews conducted over half a year or so on the theme of “partings,” and the grief and sorry that accompanies them. Inspired by the empathy and contradictions that emerged from their three years of research, in January 2025, Yuasa, Sohn, and Miyai presented a dance piece looking at the innermost aspects of people in daily life, struggling to digest the present.
Unlike the format for the previous two showings, the creation of a dance piece allowed them to convey a forceful form of artistic expression only possible through physical expression to participants and audiences who have had few opportunities to experience the performing arts.

Profile

nosmosis Organizing Committee
Using dance as a communication tool, nosmosis emphasizes the process and research involved in teaming up and attempting dialogue with people who find it difficult to connect with art due to differences in physicality, mentality, environment, generation, standpoint etc. The group aims to provide a flexible platform where people can experience the joy of expressing themselves through workshops, performance pieces, and other creative activities, and think together about mutual relationships and coexistence.
